D3 features two different skis to accomplish the common goal of more buoys. They are the Z7 and the X7. I have been telling folks the X7 is “less effort” to ride when compared to the original D3 Custom or the X5 but still maintains the great D3 turns. I typically follow that up with the fact that the Z7 takes that reduction in effort to a whole new level. The Z7 rides much higher in the water. This gives the Z7 a quicker feel thru the turn and across the course but to achieve this speed there is always some sacrifice in stability. The X7 is more stable and the Z7 is faster.

Enter: The FUSION. Designed on the same stable X7 platform that Nate Smith rides the FUSION is faster than the X7. The front of the FUSION feels much like the X7. It is stable in all phases of the turn and bleeds speed efficiently. To produce its effortless speed the FUSION incorporates the smaller bevels of the Z7. The FUSION also features additional tail width (like the X7). This additional volume under the rear foot keeps the ski moving thru the turn and the ski tip down.
The large bevel angle has been modified on the Fusion creating a comfortable accelerating platform that makes edge changes very efficient and predictable. This reduced bevel angle eliminates any feeling of getting lean-locked when skied aggressively (another X7 feature).
The FUSION is for competition skiers who prefer a faster feeling ski. The magic of the FUSION is it retains the traditional “D3” feel in the turns and is the most stable “fast” ski on the market today. Overall this is a true FUSION between the X7 and the Z7.
